A BIG Thank you to the City of Lakewood's Public Works Department for landing a $1 million grant for pedestrian connectivity!  With an eye to the vision outlined in the West Colfax Action Plan, the possibilities presented in the 40 West Arts Urban Design & Mobility Concepts document recently adopted as part of the Lakewood Comprehensive Plan, and the safety and welfare of the citizens of adjacent neighborhoods, the Public Works Department built the case with CDOT for the urgent need for infrastructure improvements from the Lamar Street Station to West Colfax and were awarded a grant to plan and complete the work in 2013. In addition to detached sidewalks, the funding also includes a new roundabout at Lamar and 14th with a design that will accommodate a public art installation in this important 40 West Arts District corridor. A hearty Well Done! to all at the City involved in this project. This connectivity issue on Lamar Street was a top priority for our Business Improvement District.  More details to come.

Congratulations to 40 West Arts
for
being selected by the Governor’s Office  as a grant recipient and being named as an Emerging Creative District by the State of Colorado--a stellar accomplishment for an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that has yet to celebrate its first full year of operations. Forty-four different districts from 25 counties applied for the designation. The 15 winners not only receive grant funds, but also technical assistance to further enhance planning and development of their districts.  Three cheers to the 40W Champion's Group for making this happen!  Read more. . .  Learn more about upcoming 40 West Arts events.

The Lakewood-West Colfax BID Initiative Passed in a Landslide! The Special Election for the Business Improvement District passed with more than 77% of the vote in favor. This milestone is a tribute to the many people and organizations that supported our effort. Thanks to the business and property owners in the corridor and the ongoing support of WCCA and its membership, this is another step in our journey to create and sustain a renewed identity for the corridor and to serve as a catalyst for economic activity for Lakewood-West Colfax businesses.

About Us
In collaboration with the
West Colfax Community Association (WCCA), Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design (RMCAD), and a broad range of other groups and involved citizens, the Lakewood-West Colfax BID is working with the business and property owners along West Colfax to manifest the vision embodied in the West Colfax Avenue Action Plan.

With the West Corridor of FasTracks coming in 2013, area businesses seek to leverage this new community asset through planning and programs that bolster the areas economic viability and attract new investment. The BID is working to revitalize the West Colfax Corridor by focusing on the following:

  1. Marketing programs, special events, and other economic development activities to increase awareness of West Colfax businesses and attract new customers to the area
  2. Streetscapes, median enhancements, pedestrian improvements and other safety and beautification programs to create a revitalized identity
  3. Programs for local businesses to encourage clean-up initiatives and frontage improvements
  4. Creation of cultural districts along West Colfax to develop and promote appealing consumer destinations along the avenue
  5. A unified voice for the business and property owners that will allow the district to attract public and private grants, thus bringing additional dollars for programs and  improvements to the corridor
These five focus areas all appear in the West Colfax Avenue Action Plan.
